Frequently Asked Questions
Click 'Sign up' at the top of any page. Enter your username, email address, and a secure password. We'll send a confirmation email — click the link inside to verify and start playing.
Go to Settings → Account. Email changes require verification via a confirmation link sent to the new address.
On the login page, click 'Forgot password?' and enter your registered email. We'll send a secure reset link valid for 30 minutes.
Premium unlocks unlimited game analysis, deeper engine depth, priority matchmaking, extended puzzle libraries, and an ad-free experience.
Go to Settings → Subscription. Click 'Manage subscription' then 'Cancel plan'. Your access remains active until the end of the current billing period.
We generally don't issue refunds for unused subscription time. If a technical error caused a wrong charge, contact support@bichess.com and we'll resolve it promptly.
Click 'Play' in the navigation bar, choose your time control and opponent type, then click 'Find game'. Matchmaking typically takes a few seconds.
Bichess uses an Elo-based system. Your rating increases when you win and decreases when you lose. The change depends on the rating difference between you and your opponent.
After a game ends, click 'Analyse' on the result screen. The engine will evaluate each move and highlight mistakes, blunders, and missed opportunities.
Evaluations are shown in pawn units (centipawns). +1.0 means White has roughly a one-pawn advantage. Scores above +3.0 indicate a winning position. Negative scores favor Black.
Puzzles are curated from real games and matched to your current puzzle rating. As you improve, difficulty scales up automatically.
No — puzzle ratings and game ratings are tracked separately. Puzzle performance appears on your profile but is independent from ranked play.
Bichess offers bots from Beginner (~500 ELO) to Grandmaster (~2400+ ELO). Each bot has a distinct playing style — choose your opponent from the Play vs. Bot screen.
No. Bot games are for practice only and do not affect your public rating. They are tracked separately in your game history.
